Alia Alshamsi

Alia Alshamsi (b. 1982, Dubai) is an artist and photographer with over two decades of experience. She studied Photography at Griffith University (Australia) and holds an MA in Photo-Image from Durham University (UK), focusing on archive and memory.

In 2005, she was the youngest photographer featured at the Biennale di Fotografia in Brescia alongside artists such as Cindy Sherman. She later taught at the American University of Sharjah and expanded into illustration, publishing children’s books and poetry.

She served as Cultural Programming Manager at Louvre Abu Dhabi for seven years and curated Interwoven: Art, Identity and the Gulf. She is also Vice President of the Emirates Reprographic Rights Association, advocating for copyright and intellectual property.
